I am pleased to say that my idea for mandatory inspections of rental buildings is now a reality. It took two years of hard work and Council finally approved it in Nov. 2021. Since then, the City has been busy hiring staff to support the initiative and inspections will begin in Fall of 2022. Dipika standing in front of an apartment building

The new program is called Mississauga Apartment Rental Compliance or MARC for short and will apply to rental buildings with more than 6 units and 2 floors.

MARC will ensure that landlords maintain rental units properly and vulnerable tenants are protected.

Here are examples of how MARC helps tenants

  1. Mandatory Inspection of Rental Buildings to ensure they are up to City standards.
  2. Landlords have to respond to urgent tenant complaints within 24 hours. Failure to do so could result in fines.
  3. Landlords cannot rent a unit with known problems to a new tenant.

If you want some one who stands up for Renters, pledge your support for Dipika here.
